2023 Spring Update

Meet Gabe

We met Gabriel last summer through our eight-week missional internship.

As newer believer who came to Christ through Chi Alpha, a college ministry at the University of Kansas, Gabe was looking for opportunities to grow in his faith and share Jesus with others. Throughout the internship, Gabe began to feel led to move to Dallas to start his career and join our Hope Dallas community.  Last November, he secured a full-time job, packed up his car, and moved to Dallas and is now making disciples at his workplace; he has also started a discipleship group for other college and young adult men in his short time in Dallas. We are grateful to the Lord for Gabe’s faithful yes in the big and the small and look forward to what God is going to continue to do in and through him.

College Missions Teams

Teams from SAGU and UNT Chi Alpha

As we celebrated the 3rd anniversary of Hope Dallas this Spring, we’ve been able to host two teams of college students on mission trips. Over spring break, a team of 9 students from UNT Chi Alpha joined us for a spring break mission trip. They partnered with our work at the El Capitan apartment complex by running spring break day camps for the families we’ve been serving the last two years. While the kids played soccer and participated in games and crafts with the college students, our Hope Dallas team was able to engage many of the mothers through Spanish Bible studies each day and develop deeper friendships through games of LoTeria (Mexican Bingo).

Our second team was a group of 10 students from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Students spent the first half of the day participating in training about living as a missionary in our everyday lives before we took our new SAGU friends to engage in apartment outreach at El Capitan, where they played soccer, served pizza, and were able to pray with many of the residents. We hope to engage with many of these college students again through future outreach days or our summer internship.

Easter Celebration

Our desire and prayer have always been that the Lord would raise up leaders within the neighborhoods where we serve.

As we’ve worked to meet local needs these last couple years, our intent has been to form new relationships to train and equip others to multiply the work; our desire and prayer have always been that the Lord would raise up leaders within those neighborhoods to spiritually lead and reach within their own community.  Little sprouts of this are starting to show, and we are seeing the Lord begin to answer these prayers. Just a few weeks ago, a group of mothers from the El Capitan apartment complex asked what “we” were going to do for Easter and for our team to help them plan an Easter party and egg hunt for their neighbors. After initial planning meetings, egg stuffing, and prayer, we were able to co-host the party at their community with over 100 neighbors in attendance.

Moms from the complex brought the piñatas (plural-yes-two piñatas because why not!), planned the games and activities, and most beautiful of all, one of the moms boldly shared the gospel message in Spanish with her neighbors and friends. We were able to sign up dozens of families for our summer camp program, where we will continue to build deeper relationships and host Bible studies for the moms throughout the summer. We are more convinced than ever that not only are we called to be everyday missionaries in our city, but we are called to raise up other missional leaders as well. We are honored to partner with moms like Sonia and grateful for her faithful yes to share the gospel and minister to the children and families in her community.

A Summer of Hope

Together, we can ignite hope for our city this summer.

One of the things we often say is that “a life with Jesus is a life on his mission.”  As we gear up for a summer on mission, we will welcome a team of 8-10 college interns to train and serve alongside.  These interns will come from around the United States to live in Dallas and staff our summer programs, commit to their own spiritual growth, and live together in Christian community.  As we finalize our team, we desire your prayers for the work that will take place this summer - both in their lives and through their faithful “Yes.”

Together, with your prayers and support and God’s faithfulness, we can ignite hope for our friends and neighbors in need this summer through the ministry that will take place—seeing lives transformed as people become fully alive towards all that God has for them.
